Tourism Industry Aotearoa has set up a temporary home across the road from its 79 Boulcott Street headquarters in Wellington while the building undergoes strengthening work.
The association and its 20 staff have been accommodated by ServiceIQ in spare office space.
TIA chief executive Chris Roberts said it was unclear how long the strengthening work would take.
“It’s highly unlikely we will be returning anytime soon. The latest advice from the building’s owners is that the strengthening work needs to proceed and they hope to get that work underway this week. We don’t yet have any indication how long that work is going to take,” said Roberts.
TIA staff were among the hundreds of occupants, including other tourism and travel association staff, forced to evacuate the building on Thursday after engineers deemed it unsafe to occupy because of cracks in the floor.
The workers were given two hours to get out and were hoping to know over the weekend whether they could return to the building.
