PRESS RELEASE: SkyBus Auckland
SkyBus, operators of New Zealand and Australia’s most awarded airport express service, is proud to announce the planned arrival of a new direct service between Auckland Airport and the North Harbour Auckland region.
Expected to launch by late 2018, the SkyBus North Harbour Airport Express will start from Civic Crescent, Albany, and travel along the Northern Busway, including stops at Smales Farm and Akoranga, before arriving at Auckland Airport.
The new airport express service will provide considerable financial savings per trip for passengers as compared to current offerings, and will be serviced by a new fleet of buses – an investment of just over $4 million by SkyBus.
“We are extremely delighted with this announcement and the support of our key stakeholders who enabled this to happen, including Auckland Airport, Auckland Transport, ATEED, Air New Zealand, Auckland University of Technology, and Albany Ward Councillor John Watson. We are highly confident there remains along this route strong local demand for our world class, low cost, frequent and convenient airport express service,” said Michael Sewards, Co-CEO and Director of SkyBus.
“SkyBus is proud of its important role in playing a part in the continued growth of Auckland’s visitor strategy by providing a hassle-free, affordable airport connection to those looking to travel across the northern region in one journey,” added Mr Sewards.
“With a projected growth in the number of people travelling to and from Auckland Airport, we believe that the North Harbour Airport Express will help ease congestion and environmental impact in and around the airport with our new fleet of buses, potentially replacing more than 100,000 car trips annually,” said Adam Begg, Co-CEO and Director of SkyBus.
The new airport express service will stand to benefit residents, businesses and local tourism players. Councillor John Watson commented saying: “This is fantastic news for the people of the North Shore and Hibiscus Coast. Our residents will now enjoy a direct service to and from the airport that runs along the busway. It’ll be so much more convenient and quicker for travellers.”
The North Harbour Airport Express will also provide a viable transport alternative for a good number of passengers including airport precinct and airline staff traveling to and from the airport.
Auckland Airport Chief Executive Adrian Littlewood says SkyBus plays an important role in the airport’s transport options including a significantly reduced fare for airport precinct workers getting to and from work.
“We are very pleased with the expansion plans and look forward to working with SkyBus to address the demand for a direct and affordable service to the airport from the North Shore.”
SkyBus currently runs a highly popular Auckland express service from the CBD to Auckland Airport, 24 hours seven days a week, and has seen significant passenger growth since its inception in 2015. The company has received consistent Excellent Ratings on Trip Advisor, and is expected to complete 1 million passenger trips this year.
The new airport express service will include famous SkyBus passenger perks such as free Wi-Fi, kerbside drop access, ample luggage storage space, online ticket discounts, reduced seniors fare and our popular ‘Kids Travel Free’ policy, whilst also having AT HOP capability.
