PRESS RELEASE: Lake Wanaka Tourism (LWT)

Lake Wanaka Tourism (LWT) has launched a Wanaka Tracks app in time for the busy summer season ahead. The app has been designed specifically for the Wanaka region, and will help visitors decide which track is best for them.

Whether walking or cycling, users can search for a track that is most suitable for their level of experience and fitness, the time required, viewpoints, accessibility, as well as providing safety information and nearby attractions.

General Manager of LWT James Helmore says he believes LWT is the first Regional Tourism Organisation to release a tracks app.

“As hiking and biking are very popular activities in this region, we saw a real need for such a specific tool. This app will provide all the information required to decide which track is most suitable.

“We will also continue to refine and update the app, based on feedback from locals and visitors on what else they need to know.”

Wanaka i-SITE Manager Jamie McGrath said, the Wanaka Tracks app will be a convenient alternative for visitors to get answers to what is one of the most frequently asked questions at the visitor centre – what and where are the best tracks?

“With nearly 1.6 million travellers visiting the Wanaka region annually, the new app will provide all the relevant information before they head out to explore Wanaka, and the surrounding area.”

Available for download today from the Apple App store, the Android version ready for use in early 2018.
