Destination Fiordland has appointed Queenstown-based Sharon Salmons to the role of Regional Tourism Manager.
Salmons will relocate to join the Regional Tourism Organisation for Te Anau, Manapouri and Fiordland, in mid-January from her current visitor experience position with industry training organisation ServiceIQ.
Her previous roles have including sales and marketing manager at Queenstown Rafting/Kiwi Discovery and client services with Active Adventures.
Paul Casson chief executive of Venture Southland said: “We are excited to make the appointment and looking forward to Sharon continuing the great work the team have made to date and looking to continue to grow the shoulder seasons and visitor numbers in the region.”
“It’s a popular destination for international visitors, so the region is gearing up for another bumper season. More and more visitors are including Te Anau in their itinerary and experiencing not only Milford Sound but the ever-growing activity and accommodation options in Te Anau, Manapouri and the other Fiords.”
Salmons and her husband have recently purchased a property in Te Anau and will relocate from their Queenstown home over the holidays.
She said: “Not only am I excited to be promoting such a stunning location, I think my husband is equally as excited being a keen outdoors person and having some world-class hiking, hunting and fishing on his doorstep. We met in Te Anau so it is like coming home for him”.
Destination Fiordland’s marketing costs are funded directly by membership subscription and operational costs are funded by Venture Southland.
