A bold plan to redevelop Dunedin’s waterfront has been welcomed by the city’s council but has received a lukewarm reception from local businesses.
The long-term master plan from architect Damien van Brandenburg and Animation Research’s Ian Taylor shows a completely revamped waterfront for the city that includes public and private investment in the area.
Dunedin City Council said it had been working towards the revitalisation of the waterfront for a number of years.
“This innovative vision for the next 25 to 30 years is very exciting and we look forward to working with all the key partners and our community to make it a reality,” said the council’s Planning and Environment Committee chair David Benson-Pope.
Other key partners working on the latest new redeveloment plans included the Otago Regional Council, Port Otago, the University of Otago and Ngāi Tahu.
