Prestigious accolade for Middle-earth man

Middle-earth movie magic has garnered attention once again following the win of a prestigious award by its marketing manager at the New Zealand Tourism Awards gala dinner in Christchurch on Thursday night.

Hobbiton Movie Set marketing manager Shayne Forrest was awarded the PATA New Zealand Trust Emerging Tourism Leader Award.

Hamilton & Waikato Tourism chief executive Jason Dawson congratulated Shayne on the win.

“This highlights the level of work and commitment to the industry undertaken by Shayne. He is very passionate about providing only the best in visitor experiences, so it’s great to see him recognised by the industry with this prestigious award.”

Shayne has been involved in initiatives that have made Hobbiton Movie Set a ‘must visit’ destination for domestic and international visitors alike. As marketing manager, he has helped visitor numbers grow from 58,000 in 2012 to more than 500,000 in 2017. He also holds leadership roles within the wider tourism industry and recently won the 2017 Young TEC Excellence Award.

Tourism Holdings Ltd Waitomo operations supervisor for Black Water Rafting Angus Stubbs was a finalist for the Auckland Airport Tourism Industry Champion Award.
